Folk SUN FISH plaque by Unknown maker and region, ca mid-20th century. A delightful large rendition of a big guy in attractive and fun paint.

Rare sculpture LION made by Walter Reinsch (b1897-c1981), Jamestown, New York. Plaster over wire and wood; painted reddish-brown with a grey-black mane; open mouth with teeth and beads for eyes. The Lion has been in the Kangas Collection since the mid 1970s. Reinsch was noted mostly for his paintings (especially women whom he adored). However, he also had fun with several figural sculptures. In another side of Walter's thinking, he worked for twenty years on an elaborate series of 13 drawings entitled "The Modern Inferno." Each depicts a harrowing portrayal of what "Going to Hell" might be like, and what type of people might be sent. This masterpiece was publicly viewed for the first and only time at Walter's one-man exhibition noted below.

Lovely varnished wooden tackle box with three-quarter dimensional fish adorning the lid. Worn oval paper sticker on bottom identifies it as having been made and/or sold by "Maison Roudier" of "France." Excellent condition.

Amish Quilt "Bow Tie" pattern made in Pennsylvania ca 1930-40. The quilt is pieced with dramatic dark and light colors using blues and blacks; two-shaded wide blue borders trimmed with narrow black borders frame the classic pattern.

Hand-knotted wool Rug derived from original Bed Rugs made by Finnish farm women in the home or for the monarchy. This early 20th century rug in orange and brown blue and white depicts traditional symbols and geometric shapes including the stately tulip as the centerpiece. This rug was made to commemorate the end of World War II and the continued freedom of the Finnish people whose valient part in the war is recognized worldwide.
